UAE Astronauts Celebrate the Successful Launch of Etihad-SAT

The UAE has achieved another major milestone in space exploration with the successful launch of Etihad-SAT, a state-of-the-art satellite designed to provide 24/7 Earth observation data, regardless of weather conditions.

A Proud Moment for the UAE

The Etihad-SAT satellite, weighing 220kg, was launched on March 15, 2025, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. This marks the UAE’s second satellite launch this year, following the successful deployment of MBZ-SAT on January 14.

UAE astronauts quickly celebrated this achievement, recognizing the efforts of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) team in making this mission a success.

UAE Astronauts React to the Launch

Hazzaa AlMansoori, the UAE’s first astronaut, shared his pride in the mission and wished the team success in the next phases.
“Etihad-SAT has successfully entered orbit. Wishing the MBRSC team success in the next phases of this mission,” he wrote on X.

Sultan AlNeyadi, the first Arab astronaut to perform a spacewalk, called it a major achievement for the UAE space sector. He highlighted how the satellite will provide valuable data that will contribute to global development.

Nora AlMatrooshi, the UAE’s first female astronaut, emphasized the satellite’s practical applications across multiple sectors, including agriculture, maritime navigation, and disaster management.

Mohammad AlMulla, a member of the second batch of the UAE Astronaut Programme, expressed his excitement for future advancements.
“Proud of our colleagues at MBRSC for this success. To more achievements!” he wrote.

A Major Step for UAE Space Research

MBRSC Director General Salem AlMarri praised the launch, highlighting the UAE’s strategic partnership with South Korea’s Satrek Initiative in developing Etihad-SAT.
“This satellite will allow us to monitor the Earth day and night, providing essential data for various sectors,” he said.

Bahrain Joins the Space Race

In addition to the UAE’s success, Bahrain has also entered the space sector by launching its first domestically built satellite, Al Munther. The satellite was part of the Transporter-13 mission and was launched aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from California.

UAE’s Growing Role in Space Exploration

The UAE continues to strengthen its position as a leader in space exploration and technological innovation. The launch of Etihad-SAT is another step forward in the country’s ambitious space program, opening doors for more scientific research, global collaborations, and groundbreaking discoveries.

With Etihad-SAT now in orbit, the UAE is set to make even greater advancements in space technology and Earth observation, reinforcing its commitment to progress and innovation.
